The 7th International Manga Award Prize-Giving Ceremony
10th March 2014

On 22 February, the Embassy of Japan hosted the 7th International Manga Award Prize-Giving Ceremony at Kinokuniya Book Stores in Suria KLCC.

The International Manga Award was founded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Japan in 2007, with the intention of expanding international cultural exchange and understanding through the Japanese Manga.

This time round, the Award Executive Committee has received a total of 256 entries from 53 countries and regions around the globe. From Malaysia, Mr. ZINT’s “User Volume 1” won the Bronze Award.

At the ceremony, Ambassador Nakamura expressed his hope that more Malaysian Manga fans would promote Manga, and that just like in Japan, here in Malaysia too that reading Manga would be a part of people’s everyday lives.

In the speech addressed by Mr. ZINT, he said that the first Manga he read was “Bio Booster Armor Guyver” by Yoshiki Takaya, and it was this piece that made him read more Manga. He also mentioned that by doing many part-time jobs, he continued drawing Manga to realize his dream of becoming a comic artist, and that he was proud of himself for receiving this Bronze Award.
