Japanese Language Festival
4th May 2014

On May 4, a Japanese Language Festival co-organised by the Japanese Language Society of Malaysia, the Embassy of Japan in Malaysia, the Japan Foundation Kuala Lumpur and Malaysia-Japan International Institute of Technology (MJIIT), was held at MJIIT in Kuala Lumpur. This is part of an annual event to introduce Japanese culture to the students studying the Japanese language and to give them an incentive to focus more on the language including attending the Japanese Story Reading Contest.

Some 1,600 students from all across Malaysia participated in the Festival. Workshops such as calligraphy, ikebana, origami and trying on the yukata were held in the marquees at the Festival. The atmosphere at the Festival was full of excitement. The participating students were able to deepen their interest in Japanese culture, and at the same time, had an opportunity to perform what they have been practicing through the coral speaking contest. It was a superb performance.

At the closing ceremony, Ambassador Miyagawa in his speech spoke words of encouragement to the students studying Japanese.
