18 December 2017

The Embassy of Japan organised “Japan Music Festival” in celebrating the 60th anniversary of the establishment of Japan-Malaysia diplomatic relations at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre as one of the major cultural events during the anniversary on 15th and 16th December, 2017. On 15th December, following Ambassador Miyagawa’s welcoming remarks, five musicians invited from Japan (Yukine: Wahensho or Japanese carillon player, Hiromi Kaneko: Japanese flutist, Michiko Matsui: opera singer, Mayuko Hattori: pianist, Yusako Terashima: soprano singer (in order of performance on the day)), three Japanese musicians based in Malaysia (Yukaga Takahashi: koto player, Keiko Nakagawa: flutist, Akiko Danis: pianist (in order of performance on the day), and the only male Malay koto player, Hafiz Othman performed.
On 16th December, AUN J CLASSIC ORCHESTRA (Japanese traditional music instruments players’ group) was invited from Japan to perform, and they collaborated with ASWARA (Akademi Seni Budaya Dan Warisan Kebangsaan) as “One Asia Classic Orchestra”. YAMAHA Music Time children also participated in the festival.
Two related workshops, one by AUN J CLASSIC ORCHESTRA at ASWARA and another by Wahensho and Japanese flutes at Novotel hotel, were held as well. More than 1,000 attended the events and enjoyed the profundity and a wide range of Japanese musical culture, and the Japan Music Festival made the bilateral relationship much closer through music.
