17th March 2014 On 15th of March (Saturday), a Mini Malaysia and Japan Festival co-organised by the Alumni Look East Policy Society (ALEPS), the Embassy of Japan in Malaysia and Subang Jaya Municipal Council, was held at 3C Complex in Subang Jaya. This is part of an annual event organised by ALEPS and the Embassy to introduce Japanese cultures in various districts including Kuala Lumpur city. This time round, with the cooperation given by Subang Jaya Municipal Council, many participated in this event held at 3C Complex, among them were mayor Dato’ Aswawi Bin Kasbi of Subang Jaya, Ambassador Miyagawa who just arrived in Malaysia on the 6th of March to assume his new position, former students who studied in Japan as well as the residents of Subang Jaya. Mayor Dato’ Aswawi Bin Kasbi of Subang Jaya announced in his opening speech that the city council is working on improving sanitary environment in the city through adoption of the separate garbage collection with cooperation of their sister city, Hioki City in Hiroshima Prefecture. Meanwhile, Ambassador Miyagawa mentioned in his speech that he was dispatched to Malaysia some 20 years ago, and this time round he returns as an Ambassador. Back then, he had the impression that Malaysians were humble, simple, kind and above all Japan-friendly. Despite of all the economic developments over the past 20 years, he senses that the hearts of Malaysian people remain the same. He wishes to rekindle old friendships and looks forward to seeing for himself things that have developed and progressed mutually between both nations, as well as things that remain unchangeably important. Following greetings from the co-organisers, there was a presentation ceremony whereby the All Japan Kendo Federation presented Kendo equipment to the Malaysia Kendo Association. It was followed by performances of Koto, traditional Japanese dance, Malaysian dance and demonstration of Japanese martial arts. Participants were entertained by cultures of both nations. Besides, a wheelchair presentation ceremony by ALEPS took place during this event too. At the tents, there were booths selling Japanese food, and booth allowing participants to put on Yukata (a casual type of Japanese kimono). There was also a calligraphy demonstration by an Embassy officer. It was a good opportunity to experience Japanese and Malaysian cultures in the neighbourhood.
