The Japanese Woodblock Prints・Photo Exhibition
Perbadanan Muzium Melaka and Embassy of Japan in Malaysia will jointly organize the “Japanese Woodblock・Photo Exhibition” from 17th December 2011 to 2nd January 2012 at Historical and Ethnography Museum (Stadhuys) Melaka.

This exhibition consists of two parts. One is the display of woodblock print(Ukiyoe) replicas of “Fifty-three Stages of the Tokaido” which were produced by Hiroshige Utagawa, one of the most famous Ukiyoe artists during the Edo period. Hiroshige’s “Fifty-three Stages of the Tokaido” is well-known as the Japanese artwork which greatly influenced many European artists including Van Gogh in the 19th century.

The other part of the exhibition will showcase Japanese cultural and scenic photo panels which cover subjects such as traditional culture, martial arts related to Japan, traditional Japanese buildings, festivals, local performing arts, traditional industrial arts and Japan’s rich natural environment. Some of these photos are provided by local governments in the Tohoku district which had been greatly affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake in March this year.

Japan is affluent in its cultural and natural resources. We hope to bring a bit of Japan to Melaka and after enjoying Japan in Melaka, you will be inspired to visit Japan to experience the real Japan.
