On September 20, the 38th Bon Odori was
held at the Kompleks Sukan Negara, co-hosted by the Embassy of Japan,
the Japan Club of Kuala Lumpur and the Japanese School of Kuala Lumpur.
The event started 30 minutes later due to heavy rain, but that
did not prevent the 30,000 plus people from participating. Many
Malaysians danced merrily in circles to the tunes of the Japanese
traditional Bon Odori dance, such as “Tokyo Ondo” and “Hanakasa Ondo”
and many Malaysian youths were dressed in yukata. All the
participants enjoyed the festive atmosphere of the Japanese festival.
