Malaysia-Japan International Institute of Technology (MJIIT) Has Been Officially Launched
9 August 2012

The Malaysia-Japan International Institute of Technology (MJIIT) has been officially launched by YAB Dato’ Sri Mohammad Najib bin Tun Abdul Razak, Prime Minister of Malaysia on 1st June 2012. H.E. Dr. Yukio Hatoyama, Special Envoy of the Japanese Prime Minister joined the launching ceremony.

MJIIT is a higher education institute located in Malaysia which provides Japanese-style engineering education to young Malaysian and international students. It was established under the agreement of both Japanese and Malaysian governments in May 2010. MJIIT received its first batch of students in September 2011 while operating on the premises of UTM International Campus, but has since then moved into its own new building along Jalan Semarak, where the launching ceremony was held. It is expected to become the engineering education hub in ASEAN while promoting human exchange between Japan and Malaysia.

Besides providing yen loan (6.7 billion yen), Japan provides cooperation through the formation of the Japanese University Consortium, and also by dispatching Japanese academic staff and providing advice in setting the curriculum.

During the launching ceremony, representatives of the Japanese University Consortium, formed by 24 Japanese universities and Prof. Dato’ Ir. Dr. Zaini bin Ujang, Vice Chancellor of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), witnessed by YAB Dato’ Sri Mohammad Najib, H.E. Dr. Yukio Hatoyama, and other dignitaries.
