Port call to Kota Kinabalu by the Ship for Southeast Asian and Japanese Youth Programme

On December 5, Nippon-maru, the ship used for Southeast Asian and Japanese Youth programme (SSEAYP) made a port call to Kota Kinabalu. Minister Kodama, Deputy Chief of Mission attended its welcoming ceremony and dinner.

SSEAYP organized by Cabinet Office of Japanese Government aims to promote friendship and mutual understanding among youth of Southeast Asia countries and Japan. It has been held annually since 1974. The previous port call in Malaysia was at Port Klang in 2011 and the ship visits Kota Kinabalu for second time after 20 years.

This year programme brings together more than 300 youth from 10 ASEAN countries and Japan. Participants will arrive at Tokyo on 15 December 2015 after enjoying various activities, such as homestay in Kota Kinabalu.
