The Official Send-Off Ceremony of
Japan-East Asia Network of Exchage for Students and Youths (JENESYS) Programme

The Official Send-Off Ceremony for the first group of the Malaysian participants to the Japan-East Asia Network of Exchange for Students and Youths (JENESYS) programme was held on 19th November at Concorde Inn KLIA hosted by the Embassy of Japan in Malaysia, with the participation of 100 Malaysian participants to the programme, Minister Katayama and Mr. Yamamoto from Embassy of Japan, officials from the Ministry of Education of Malaysia and staff of Japan International Cooperation Center (JICE), the coordinator of the trip and exchange activities.

Minister Katayama made a speech to encourage the participants to the progarmme, 60 students from upper-secondary schools, 30 students from matriculation schools and 9 teachers and 1 government official from Ministry of Education of Malaysia as the leaders of the party, followed by the speeches given by Mr. Sulaiman bin Wak, Deputy Director, Schools Division of Ministry of Malaysia as the head of the party and a representative of participating students.

The JENESYS programme is a five year project that aims to promote mutual understandings and friendship among the East Asian region, which was announced by Mr. Shinzo Abe, then Prime Minister of Japan, at the East Asia Summit in January this year. The group gathered at the ceremony is the first  invitee to Japan from Malaysia under the framework of the JENESYS programme.

The 100 participants are to leave KLIA at the ceremony day's night, be divided into 5 groups upon arrival to Japan on 20th to have exchange activities such as Homestay and visits to Japanese high schools in Pref Okinawa, Pref. Ibaraki, Pref Miyazaki, Pref. Nara and Pref. Yamagata respectively  and come back to Malaysia on 29th.
