University Badminton Exchange Programme between Japan and Malaysia
25-30 July 2010

A Japanese delegation which consists of 8 top university badminton players occupying high positions in the Japanese domestic ranking was dispatched to Malaysia for the “University Badminton Exchange Programme between Japan and Malaysia” under the Japan-East Asia Network of Exchange for Students and Youths (JENESYS) Programme.

This is the first time a sports exchange programme has been organized in Malaysia under the JENESYS Programme. The Japanese delegation’s itinerary began with a courtesy call to the Embassy of Japan in Malaysia and the Ministry of Youth and Sports. Subsequently, they took part in several badminton exchanges such as that with the Badminton Association of Malaysia and the badminton club of Universiti Malaya.

The highlight of the programme was the badminton match between Japan and Malaysia held at the Student & Alumni Affairs Sports Centre, located within the main campus of Universiti Teknologi MARA in Shah Alam on 28 July. Under the watchful eyes of 150 students, the Japanese delegation played against selected Malaysian university players who participated in a joint training camp from the previous day. After a series of 5 exciting games which displayed excellent skills during the fiery contention that took 2.5 hours, the Japanese delegation eventually emerged victorious with a score of 3-2, having won the male single & double and female double matches.

The Japanese delegation also had the golden opportunity to visit Nusa Mahsuri, the badminton club supervised by Dato’ Mohamed Misbun Sidek, coach for Datuk Lee Chong Wei, a world-class Malaysian badminton player who clinched the All England Open winner’s trophy in 2010.
