40th Anniversary of the Japan Graduates’ Association of Malaysia |
Celebrating its 40th anniversary, the Japan Graduates’ Association of
Malaysia (JAGAM) held a gala event at a hotel in Cyberjaya. The event
was participated by approximately 400 people, including honorary
guests, the former students to Japan and supporters.
The occasion was grand with a speech by YB Elizabeth Wong, the Selangor Exco for Tourism, Consumer Affairs and Environment, performance of ocarina and shamisen by a duo group called Heisei Sakura; Okinawa karate and Okinawan dance, Eisa, was performed by Okinawans, who visited Malaysia solely for this occasion. Dr. Ooi Chee Keong, the President of JAGAM mentioned in his speech the following three points:- 1)intensify efforts in promoting exchanges involving students and youths between Malaysia and Japan, 2) promote Malaysian culture to the Japanese people, 3) help raise the level of scientific research in Malaysia. Ambassador Nakamura in his speech congratulated JAGAM on their 40th anniversary,wishing JAGAM to continue to strengthen and develop in future, and expressed that the Japanese Embassy will continue to support the efforts of JAGAM. JAGAM started its activities in 1973, as an organization comprising of graduates who have studied in Japan. Since then, aside from social gathering among the members, JAGAM has been actively initiating many activities and programs such as education counseling sessions to Malaysian students wishing to study in Japan; lectures and seminars; Japanese language classes; home stay programs. Literally, JAGAM has been the bridge between Japan and Malaysia. For its outstanding achievements and dedication, JAGAM was commended the Foreign Minister’s Commendation in 2007.
