Handover Ceremony to the Damai Disabled Persons Association of Selangor and Wilayah Persekutuan under Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects
The Government of Japan has donated RM145,516 to the Damai Disabled Persons Association of Selangor and Wilayah Persekutuan (referred to as the Damai) for the “Project to purchase a vehicle (van) with wheel chair lift for disabled people”.

The Handover Ceremony for the vehicle (van) with wheel chair lift was held on 5 October 2011 at Damai Disabled Persons Association (No. 4 Lorong 1A/71J, Jalan Carey, 46000 Petaling Jaya Selangor). The event was officiated by Yang Berhormat Datuk Seri Kong Cho Ha, Minister of Transport, Malaysia and Mr Koichi Ito, Deputy Chief of Mission who delivered a speech.

The Damai is an NGO to support disabled people. As part of its activities, the Damai will run transportation services for the disabled charging only the minimum running cost of service. This service will enable the disabled to attain a more independent life.

Since 1989, the Government of Japan has extended about RM13.5 million to non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and local governments in Malaysia under its Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects Scheme as a way to contribute to many small but socially important projects at the grassroots level.
