Japan’s Grant Assistance to Malaysia for Grassroots Human Security:
Project for the Renovation of Sports Ground for Orphans

1st September 2009
Embassy of Japan

The Government of Japan has provided grassroots human security grant aid of USD12,864 to The Pure Life Society for the renovation of sports facilities (inclusive of a basketball court, etc.).

The sports facilities were completed and the ceremony was held at The Pure Life Society on 26 August 2009. YBhg. Wee Jeck Seng, Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, H.E. Masahiko Horie, Ambassador of Japan to Malaysia and Mother Mangalam, President of The Pure Life Society, were present at the ceremony.

With these sports facilities, The Pure Life Society will be able to enhance its physical education and foster the health development of the children.

Since 1989, the Government of Japan has extended about RM10 million to non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and local governments in Malaysia under its Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects scheme as a way to contribute to many small but socially important projects at the grassroots level.

*The Pure Life Society is an NGO, established in 1950, to run a home for orphans and underprivileged children in Kuala Lumpur. It provides these children with residential cares, education (reading and writing) as well as skill training (sewing, handicraft making, etc.).
