Japan’s Grant Assistance to Malaysia for Grassroots Human Security

The Government of Japan donated RM112,690.11 to the Family Planning Association of Selangor and Wilayah Persekutuan (FPASWP) for the purchase of medical equipment. The medical equipment, an ultrasound machine and a bone densitometer, will be used to provide comprehensive and quality reproductive health services to women from lower income group.

The Embassy of Japan and the Family Planning Association of Selangor and Wilayah Persekutuan signed and exchanged the grant contract on 17th December 2007, and the above mentioned medical equipments have been purchased under the grant.

The equipments was handed over to the Family Planning Association on 4th July 2008. H.E. Mr. Masahiko Horie, Ambassador of Japan to Malaysia, Y.A.M. Tengku Putri Puan Sri Datin Paduka Setia Nor Zehan Bt. Almarhum Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Alhaj, Patron of FPASWP and Datuk Dr. Johan Thambu Abdul Malek, Chairman of FPASWP, were present at the handing-over ceremony.

Since 1989, the Government of Japan has extended about RM10 million to non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and local governments in Malaysia under its Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects scheme as a way to contribute to many small but socially important projects at the grassroots level.

* The Selangor & Wilayah Persekutuan Family Planning Association is an NGO, established in 1953, to provide family planning and sexual reproductive health services in the Klang valley and Selangor.
