Japan’s Grant Assistance to Malaysia for Grassroots Human Security

The Government of Japan donated RM117,069.23, to Mobiliti (Mobility Association of Kuala Lumpur and Selangor) for the purchase of a vehicle with wheel chair lift for disabled people. The vehicle will be used to provide ‘door to door’ transport service for wheelchair users.

The Embassy of Japan and Mobiliti signed and exchanged the grant contract on 17th December 2007, and the above mentioned vehicle has been purchased under the grant.

The vehicle was handed over to Mobiliti on 8th July 2008. H.E. Mr. Masahiko Horie, Ambassador of Japan to Malaysia and Mr. Anthony Arokia, President, Mobiliti, were present at the handing-over ceremony.

Since 1989, the Government of Japan has extended about RM10 million to non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and local governments in Malaysia under its Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects scheme as a way to contribute to many small but socially important projects at the grassroots level.

* Mobiliti is a NGO, established in July 2001, to provide an independent ‘door-to-door’ transport service for disabled people living in the Klang Valley with the aim of improving the quality of life for people living with disability and the elderly.
