Signing of the Grant Contract between Embassy of Japan and four Malaysian NGOs
under Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects

The Government of Japan has decided to extend grant aid to the following 4 NGOs in Malaysia under its Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects Scheme.
The grant contracts between the Embassy of Japan and the following NGOs were signed on 27th November 2013 at the Japanese Ambassador’s residence.


  •    The Beautiful Gate Foundation
  •    The Development of Human Resources for Rural Area Malaysia (DHRRA)
  •    Persatuan Mobiliti Selangor dan Kuala Lumpur (Mobiliti)
  •    Persatuan Pemulihan Sultan Azlan Shah

(Summary of the 4 Projects)

1.    The Project for Enhancing the Capability to Collect Recycling Items by the Handicapped People
(1)    Recipient        : The Beautiful Gate Foundation
(2)    Grant amount  : USD 103,145 (RM324,804)
(3)    Project Details
The grant will enable the organization to purchase 180 recycling bins and a truck to expand their recycling social business in Puchong, Subang Jaya and Petaling Jaya to support their activities to help people with disabilities. The recycling business will provide employment for people with disabilities while the proceeds will be used to provide training to people with disabilities to live independently. This project is a public-private partnership between the Government of Japan and OJI Paper Group of Japan and its subsidiary GS Paper and Packaging..
(4)    Donated items : 180 recycling bins and one truck

2.  The Project for Publishing the Supplementary Booklet for the School Education and Enhancing Educational Activities towards the Underprivileged.
(1) Recipient          : The Development of Human Resources for Rural Area
        Malaysia (DHRRA)
(2) Grant amount    : USD 83,528 (RM266,622)
(3) Project Details
The grant will be used to print educational booklets to be distributed free of charge to all Tamil schools to raise the education level of the school children. The booklets will feature the Science subject in Tamil and English languages. The grant will provide printing fees for 5 different issues with 20,000 booklets to be printed in each issue, equipment for editing as well as equipment to be used during school visits to provide motivational activities to the school children. This project is also a public-private partnership between the Government of Japan and Japanese education and publishing company Gakken.
(4) Donated items   : Printing fees for 5 different issues with 20,000 booklets to be printed in each issue, cost for items to edit the booklet (a camera, printer, PC) and items to be utilized during school visits (video camera, projector)


3.  The Project for Installing the Vehicles for Wheel Chair Users
(1)    Recipient        : Persatuan Mobiliti Selangor dan Kuala Lumpur (Mobiliti)
(2)    Grant amount  : USD 74,441 (RM234,119)
(3)    Project Details
Persatuan Mobiliti Selangor dan Kuala Lumpur (Mobiliti) is an NGO which provides Taxi service to wheel chair users at very low fares. Mobiliti will utilize the grant to purchase two vans with wheel chair lifts to transport people with disabilities. The GGP was also provided to Mobiliti in 2008 to purchase a van with wheelchair lift.

4.  The Project for Equipping a Living Independent Unit at a Rehabilitation Centre for the Physically Handicapped
(1)    Recipient        : Persatuan Pemulihan Sultan Azlan Shah
(2)    Grant amount  : USD 23,209 (RM74,085)
(3)    Project Details
Persatuan Pemulihan Sultan Azlan Shah, which runs rehabilitation centres and provides free service to people with disabilities. The grant will be used to equip an independent living centre within their rehabilitation centre. The GGP will provide funds for renovation and for equipment and devices in order for the centre to train people with disabilities to live a more independent life.
(4)    Donated items : Renovation fees to renovate the rehabilitation centre,  cost for furniture and electronic devices for rehabilitation

 (Summary of Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects)
The Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects is given out to support small but socially important projects at the grassroots level for non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and local governments.
Since 1989, the Government of Japan has contributed about RM15.2 million to 133 projects in Malaysia.
