Presentation Ceremony to the Malaysian Federation of the Deaf under the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects |

The
Government of Japan has donated a total of RM 264,561 (US$ 84,931) to
the “Malaysian Federation of the Deaf” under the Grant Assistance for
Grassroots Human Security Projects. The handing over ceremony was held
on 1st October. The details of the project are as follows; <The Project for Publishing Dictionaries for Malaysian Sign Language (MSL)> Summary of the project -Grant amount: RM 264,561 (US$ 84,931) -Donated items: Survey cost for the current use of MSL, cost for three devices to compile the dictionaries (a PC, camera and printer) and printing cost for 23,000 copies of the dictionaries -Recipient: Malaysian Federation of the Deaf RM 264,561 (US$ 84,931) was donated to the “Malaysian Federation of the Deaf” in order to publish dictionaries for Malaysian Sign Language (MSL) in 8 fields (Medical, Islam, Sport and five fields of Academic Education). The Handing over ceremony was held on 1st October in the banquet hall of the Malaysian Parliament building. The event began with a speech of appreciation by Mr. Mohamad Sazali Shaari, the President of Malaysian Federation of the Deaf, followed by speeches by Mr. Yoshinori Kodama, the Minister of Japan to Malaysia and Y.B. Datuk Mary Yap Kain Ching, Deputy Minister of Education, Malaysia. It is hoped that this project will facilitate more social interaction and independent living for the hearing-impaired community.
