Presentation Ceremony to
        The National Society of St. Vincent De Paul, Malaysia, Central Council of Selangor
        And
        Persatuan Kebajikan Orang Cacat Manjung
        under the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects


    The Government of Japan has donated a total of US$136,915 (RM412,800.60) to two Malaysian NGOs; The National Society of St. Vincent De Paul, Malaysia, Central Council of Selangor, and Persatuan Kebajikan Orang Cacat Manjung under the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects. The handing over ceremonies to the two NGOs were held on 17th October and 22nd October respectively. The details of the two projects are as follows;

1. The project to expand the orphanage
    <Summary of the project>
    Grant amount: RM318,284.60 (US$105,567)
    Donated items: Cost of constructing the boys and girls dormitories for Rumah Keluarga Kami
    Recipient: The National Society of St. Vincent De Paul, Malaysia, Central Council of Selangor
 
     US$105,567(RM318,284.60) was donated to The National Society of St. Vincent De Paul, Malaysia, Central Council of Selangor in order to construct the boys and girls dormitories to expand the capacity of the orphanage, Rumah Keluarga Kami, so that the orphanage can accommodate up to 60 children in need.
     The Handing over ceremony was held on 17th October in Kajang, Selangor and H.E. Shigeru Nakamura, Ambassador of Japan to Malaysia delivered an address. Y.B. Dr Ong Kian Meng, Member of Parliament for Serdang, Y.B. Tuan Dr. Xavier Jayakumar, Selangor State Legislative Assembly Member for Seri Andalas, and Y.B. Tuan Lee Chin Cheh, Selangor State Legislative Assembly Member for Kajang were present to witness the ceremony. Mr Bryan Perera, Senior member of the Society of St Vincent De Paul, Conference of the Holy Family Kajang delivered a speech of appreciation while the children of the orphanage gave a lovely performance by singing a few songs and handed thank you cards to the participants. This project is a Public Private Partnership programme in cooperation with AEON Co (M) Bhd which donated RM30,000 to partly furnish the newly constructed dormitories.  Aeon Co has also partnered with Rumah Keluarga Kami and will be providing long term support and assistance to the orphanage such by involving the orphans in their social activities.

2. The project to purchase a vehicle for the rehabilitation of the disabled
    <Summary of the project>
    Grant amount: RM94,516 (US$ 31,348)
    Donated items: a 16-seater van
    Recipient: Persatuan Kebajikan Orang Cacat Manjung

     RM94,516 (US$ 31,348) was donated to Persatuan Kebajikan Orang Cacat Manjung in order to purchase a 16-seater van for their rehabilitation centre to provide free physiotherapy and rehabilitation treatment to the disabled. The 16-seater van will provide patients with transportation to and from its physiotherapy and rehabilitation centre for treatment. The van is also vital for the association to make home visits as well as collaborate with the local social welfare department to provide treatment to patients in remote areas.
     The Handing over ceremony was held on 22nd October in Sitiawan, Perak, and H.E. Shigeru Nakamura, Ambassador of Japan to Malaysia delivered an address.  Y.B. Dato’ S.K. Devamany, Honourable Speaker of the Perak State Assembly and Y.D.H. Dato Abdul Wahab Bin Dato Seri Azizul Hassan, Territorial Chief Manjung, who represented His Highness the Sultan Of Perak were present to witness the ceremony. Dr Manjit Singh, President of Persatuan Kebajikan Orang Cacat Manjung delivered a speech of appreciation.

     Since 1989, the Government of Japan has extended about RM15 million in total to 133 non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and local governments in Malaysia under its Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects Scheme as a way to contribute to many small but socially important projects at the grassroots level.
