Donation for Hulu Langat Landslide Victims from Embassy of Japan

Embassy of Japan in Malaysia

Diplomats of the Embassy of Japan in Malaysia organized a charity luncheon to raise fund for the victims of the landslide which struck Hidayah Madrasah Al-Taqwa orphanage in Hulu Langat on 21 May. After the charity luncheon, we presented the funds collected to Dato' Syed Nadzri Syed Harun, Group Editor, representative of NST, for Tabung Bencana, the charity fund organized by New Straits Times Press - Media Prima.

This is to reciprocate "Kizuna (bonds of friendship)" shown by the people of Malaysia to Japan after the Great East Japan Earthquake on 11 March. There was also a donation from an orphanage. It is moving that even small children without a home shared their pockets and thoughts with people in difficulty in Japan.

Diplomats of the Embassy condoled with the victims of the landslide, and thought it's time to show "Kizuna"  for Malaysia.

At the same time, the Embassy announced a project of “SATREPS (Science and Technology Research Partnership for Sustainable Development)” under the Japanese Official Development Assistance (ODA) scheme, which is a 5-year joint research between Malaysia and Japan on the reduction of damage caused by landslide.  This project is expected to contribute towards mitigating similar incidents of landslide from taking place again. Estimated budget of the project is 360 million yen (RM13 million) and will be fully funded by the Government of Japan.
