28 March 2014

March 28, Mr. Hiroshi Matsuura, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of Japan in Malaysia, attended the signing ceremony between Berjaya Land Bhd and Taisei Corporation to construct the Four Seasons Hotel Kyoto in Higashiyama district, Kyoto city. During the event, Berjaya Land Bhd also signed a loan agreement with Mizuho Bank and RHB Bank to fund the development. The hotel is owned by Berjaya Land Bhd but will be operated by the Four Seasons Hotel. Also present at the signing ceremony was Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz, Tourism and Culture Minister, as well as the senior management officials of Berjaya Corporation Bhd, Taisei Corporation, Mizuho Bank and RHB Bank. The construction of the hotel began in September 2013 and it is scheduled to be opened in spring 2016.

The project is not only one of the real estate development projects in Japan by Malaysian companies, but is also expected to be a new bridge between the business communities of Malaysia and Japan. In addition to the attractions of the ancient capital of Kyoto, the completion of the high-profile hotel is expected to further enhance the appeal of Kyoto and Japan to foreign tourists, including Malaysians.
