1.The Government and people of Japan have been deeply saddened by the tragedy of an AirAsia Plane 8501, which happened in the Java Sea off Borneo on 28 December.  We express our heartfelt condolences to the victims and their families.

2.The Government of Japan, in response to the requests received from the Government of Indonesia, as well as Malaysia where AirAsia corporate headquarter locates, has prepared to dispatch two vessels of Maritime Self-Defence Forces carrying three helicopters on their board for search and rescue operations in the Java Sea. 

3.The two vessels, "Ohnami" and "Takanami", both with a displacement of 4650 tonnage, are currently lying at anchor at Port Klang in Selangor State, Malaysia, refuelling and victualing, have set sail for their search and rescue duty on the 2nd of January heading to the Java Sea.

4.The Government of Japan always stands ready to assist the governments of Indonesia and Malaysia to overcome this tragic event.
