14th Science Council of Asia (SCA) Conference

    The Science Council of Asia (SCA) Conference was held in Istana Hotel, Kuala Lumpur from 17-19 June 2014. The theme of the symposium was “Future Earth: Research for Global Sustainability and Holistic Understanding of Sustainable Development in Asia”. The Symposium began with the welcome remarks by Professor Emeritus Dr. Mohd Nordin Hasan, the President of SCA and Fellow of Academy of Sciences Malaysia (ASM) and was followed by the keynote address entitled “Uncertain Times, Changing Principles, Quo Vadis?” by Professor Dr. Kiyoshi Kurokawa, Member Specially Appointed for 14th SCA Conference, Science Council of Japan (former President of Science Council of Japan).

The SCA is an international academic organization set up in 2000 with the objective to promote academic joint research and cooperation in Asia. It was formed by leading scientists from Asian who supported the idea of the Science Council of Japan. Currently, there are 29 organizations from Asian which have joined the SCA, with the secretariat set up in the Science Council of Japan. This is the second time for the SCA Conference to be held in Malaysia; the first time was in 2002.
