Visit to Malaysia by Chiba Prefecture Governor, Mr. Kensaku Morita |
Chiba prefecture governor Mr. Kensaku Morita visited Malaysia from 21 to 26 January. The purpose of his visit was to make Chiba known to the Malaysian people and to promote its agricultural products and tourism. While staying in KL, Governor Morita’s mission was to promote tourism to Chiba and the sales of Chiba’s agricultural products. With the cooperation of the Embassy of Japan in Malaysia and the KL office of JETRO, Chiba hosted business meetings with Malaysian tour agents and food buyers. In addition, “CHIBA – Tokyo’s secret backyard Reception” was co-hosted by the Japanese Embassy and Chiba Prefectural Government. The reception was to introduce the many charms of Chiba and was participated by approximately 180 people. Ambassador Nakamura in his opening remarks mentioned that “In terms of agricultural products and food, Japanese cuisine is very popular in Malaysia, and many retail stores have various Japanese agricultural products and food on their shelves. However, there remain many attractive products and food in Japan, which are not well known to Malaysians just yet, and we are keen on sharing these products and food worldwide.” During his stay in Malaysia, Governor Morita visited Chiba Fair at AEON Mid Valley. At the fair, such agricultural products from Chiba as sweet potatoes, peanuts and strawberries were sold, and Governor Morita himself actively promoted these products to the shoppers by distributing samples. Governor Morita had a meeting with Y.B. Dato' Seri Mohamed Nazri bin Tan Sri Abdul Aziz, Minister for Tourism and Culture, and agreed on having youth exchange programs between Chiba Prefecture and Malaysia. Governor Morita also made a courtesy call on Y.A. Bhg. Tun Dr. Mahatir. At an interview session with the Japanese media, Governor Morita mentioned that from now on, it is important for the local government to also play a part in Japan’s diplomacy, and that Chiba would like to contribute to enhancing the friendly relations between Japan and Malaysia. Governor Morita also mentioned the importance of long lasting exchanges between Chiba and Malaysia.
