09 May 2016
On May 9th, 10 students of EtonHouse
Malaysia International School (in years 4 and 5) and 3 teachers visited
the Embassy, in order to hand over their relief money for the Kumamoto
Earthquake to Ambassador Miyagawa.
Ambassador Miyagawa expressed
his sincere gratitude to the students, and mentioned in his address
that the Japanese are continuing their efforts to recover from the
disaster by helping each other. He also gave examples of the various
disaster management measures that Japan implemented based on the
lessons learnt and knowledge that had been cultivated through its
experience of disasters in order to reduce the damage, such as initial
rescue activities by the Japan Self-Defence Forces, Police Emergency
Rescue Unit and Volunteer Fire Brigade.
The relief money
received by the Embassy will go to the Japanese Red Cross Society for
relief and rescue operations, which the students are focused on. We
hope that the students’ donation will help to hasten the restoration of
the Kumamoto region. It is our hope also that the students will deepen
their understanding of Japan’s disaster management measures and strive
towards becoming future bridges between Japan and other countries.
