In a separate occasion, on December 7th, the opening ceremony of TORAY-USM Knowledge Transfer Centre was held at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM). Ambassador Miyagawa also attended this event together with Yang Berhormat Datuk Seri Idris Bin Jusoh, Minister of Higher Education. In addition to the research activities on the preservation of cultural, historical, and heritage of Malaysia, this centre will also help to link up local and international researchers and collaborators. Majority of its construction cost was donated by Toray. Ambassador Miyagawa mentioned in his speech that Japan’s assistance is not intended to impose Japan on others, instead, carries the principle to think and move forward together with the local people by cultivating firm roots in the country. He also mentioned that Japan will not spare any effort to share its know-how, and expressed his joy and appreciation to see the same spirit being shared by Toray Malaysia Group. Through these activities, Malaysia, with many Japanese companies advancing into it, plays a central role in science, technology, and research development in ASEAN; the friendship between Japan and Malaysia is also expected to further deepen.
