Emergency Assistance to Malaysia in Response to the Flood Disaster |
2 January 2015
1.The Government of Japan has been
deeply concerned for those in distress in the flood stricken states in
Malaysia. The Japanese government and the people of Japan express
full-hearted sympathy with the people in Malaysia, where recent heavy
rain has caused the massive floods resulting in 17 death tolls as well
as the evacuation of over 100,000 people. 2.Out of experiences of disasters in our own country, the Government of Japan now realises urgent need for assisting the government and the people of Malaysia in their difficult tasks and undertakings of rescuing their people under distress. 3.Through intensive hearings and consultations with the Malaysian authority for the last several days on the facilities and equipment in desperate need, the government of Japan is now ready to offer and provide immediately the emergency relief facilities and equipment, including generators, water purifiers and other humanitarian goods, through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), worth over RM 500,000 (no less than 19 million yen). 4.The Government of Japan always stands ready to assist Malaysia in such tragic circumstances, and earnestly hopes that the Malaysian government and people will breast the storm, face adversity with courage, and to bring back stable life to people in those areas as soon as possible. |
