On April 8, Affin Investment Bank held a forum entitled “Look East Policy (LEP) 2.0 Forum” in Kuala Lumpur. Mr. Hiroshi Matsuura, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of Japan in Malaysia attended the forum as the guest of honor while Dr. Kazuhiro Kawase, Chief of Economic Section at the Embassy delivered a lecture entitled “The Nexus: Abenomics and LEP 2.0” at the forum. Former Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad delivered a keynote address prior to all sessions. There were also presentations by companies and government agency officials from Japan and Malaysia during the forum, which included a history of the LEP over the past 30 years and the direction of the “LEP 2.0”. Dr. Kawase highlighted in his lecture that the LEP was the basis of the bilateral relationship between Malaysia and Japan and culminated in the establishment of the Malaysia Japan International Institute of Technology (MJIIT). He also said that there were similarities in the “Third arrow（a growth strategy to encourage private investment）” of Abenomics and LEP 2.0 and that Japan and Malaysia were expected to cooperate as partners in the future.
