Vice-Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications Masahito FUJIKAWA’s Visit to Malaysia

Mr. Masahito Fujikawa, Vice-Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications, Japan, visited Malaysia from Saturday, 3rd May to Tuesday, 6th May, 2014. The overview of the visit is as follows.

1. In the meeting with H.E. Dato’ Jailani Johari, Deputy Minister of Communications and Multimedia, Malaysia, Mr. FUJIKAWA exchanged opinions on ICT strategies of Japan and Malaysia and also on specific topics (mobile payment system, cyber security, broadcasting content, etc.). In addition, the two parties confirmed the importance of further strengthening cooperative relationships in the field of ICT, as Malaysia is putting the whole country’s strength into developing the field of ICT.

2. In the meeting with Dato' Mohamed Sharil Mohamed Tarmizi, Chairman of Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission, opinions on ICT strategies of the two countries were exchanged.

3. Mr. FUJIKAWA had a talk with Ms. Ng Wan Peng, Chief Operating Officer of Multimedia Development Corporation to exchange opinions on specific principles for the promotion of projects related to Malaysia’s ICT strategies (Digital Malaysia). Furthermore, it was confirmed that Japan would continue to provide support in the field of mobile payment system, whose introduction is currently under consideration on the Malaysian side.

4. Mr. FUJIKAWA visited the fourth data center of NTT MSC in Cyberjaya which started operations in April 2014 and exchanged opinions on the data center business, which is one of the priority fields of Malaysia, and a trend of ICT-related industries.

5. Mr. FUJIKAWA also visited the broadcasting studio of Media Prima, the largest media group in Malaysia, and exchanged opinions on how to promote Japanese broadcasting content in Malaysia and on cooperation between the two countries in broadcasting content such as a joint production.

6. Mr. FUJIKAWA exchanged opinions on future cooperation between Japan and Malaysia with members of ALEPS (Alumni Look East Policy Society) who were dispatched to study in Japan thanks to the “Look East Policy” of the Malaysian government.
