Japan-Malaysia Summit Meeting

On November 13, commencing at 4:45 p.m. for approximately 10 minutes, Mr. Shinzo Abe, Prime Minister of Japan, held a meeting with Dato’ Sri Haji Mohd Najib bin Tun Haji Abdul Razak, Prime Minister and Minister of Finance of Malaysia, while both were attending the ASEAN Summit in Myanmar.

The gist of the meeting is as follows:

1. Prime Minister Abe stated that he has already met Prime Minister Najib frequently and that he wished to further enhance the wide range of cooperation with Malaysia. Prime Minister Najib also welcomed further strengthening of the existing friendly bilateral relations between the two countries’ through meeting with Prime Minister Abe.

2. Regarding the high-speed railway project between Malaysia and Singapore, Prime Minister Abe once again conveyed his expectations on the Shinkansen system being adopted. Prime Minister Najib explained the current situation of the project.

3. Prime Minister Abe took this opportunity to touch on the subject of maritime security by conveying to Prime Minister Najib once again that Japan would continue to support the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA).
