KUALA LUMPUR: On 10th October, 「The Look East Policy ~ A NEW
DIMENSION」conference was held in conjunction with the 31st
MAJECA-JAMECA Joint Conference hosted by the Malaysian
Government.
In the morning, around
700 people attended 「The Look East Policy ~ A NEW DIMENSION」conference.
In opening, Dato’ Sri Mustapa Mohamed from the Ministry of
International Trade & Industry (MITI) gave a welcome speech,
followed by the Prime Minister of Japan Noda’s congratulatory speech
delivered by the Ambassador of Japan in Malaysia, Mr. Shigeru Nakamura.
Subsequently, the Prime Minister of Malaysia Dato’ Sri Najib Tun Razak
gave a keynote speech on the success of the Look East Policy over the
past 30 years and remarked that the policy is very highly evaluated.
Dato’ Sri Najib Tun Razak also made an appeal to ensure that this
policy will continue on and some development should be made for better
collaboration. During the second half of the conference, Dato’ Mustapa
gave a presentation, after which a Panel Discussion was opened to the
floor.
In the
afternoon, the 31st MAJECA-JAMECA Joint Conference was held. Economic
representatives of JAMECA (Japan-Malaysia Economic Association) and
MAJECA (Malaysia-Japan Economic Association), including JAMECA
President Mr. Sasaki Mikio and MAJECA President Dato’ Azman Hashim,
attended the conference and exchanged ideas on improving Malaysia-Japan
economic relations. Later in the evening, the founder of the Look East
Policy, former Prime Minister of Malaysia Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad
graced the dinner function and gave a speech on the importance of the
Look East Policy and the continuation of Malaysia-Japan Relation.
