Japan Coast Guard Gulf V departs for Australia

  The Japan Coast Guard Gulf V continued its SAR operations based at Subang Airport until 24th March. On 26th March, the aircraft departed for Perth to join the SAR operations offshore southwest Australia.
On the day of departure, Ambassador Miyagawa had an interview with the press. Ambassador also encouraged the crew before sending them off.

<Gist of Ambassador Miyagawa’s remarks at Subang Airport>
- Japan intends to do its utmost to continue to cooperate in another series of operations that will commence in Australia. The Malaysian Government highly appreciates the assistance provided by the Japan Coast Guard’s Gulf V as well as the P3C and C130 aircraft from the Self Defense Forces.
- In the telephone talks between Prime Minister Abe and Prime Minister Najib, Prime Minister Najib stated that Japan’s assistance in the search operations has been invaluable, and that he was very grateful for the encouragement. Prime Minister Abe mentioned that Japan and Malaysia had a cooperative relationship that was special, and that Japan would do whatever necessary to assist Malaysia.
- The search operations in the Indian Ocean will never be easy and I assume that there will be a series of difficult operations ahead. I would like to wish the members of the Japan Disaster Relief team all the very best in their endeavors.
