Telephone Talks between Prime Minister Abe and Prime Minister Najib

    On Friday, March 21, for approximately 10 minutes from 16:30pm (Malaysian time), Prime Minister Shinzo Abe held telephone talks with Dato’ Sri Haji Mohd Najib bin Tun Haji Abdul Razak, Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Malaysia. The overview is as follows.

  1. Prime Minister Abe expressed his deep concern about the missing aircraft which has not been found so far despite the painstaking efforts poured into the ongoing massive search operations. Prime Minister Abepraised Prime Minister Najib’s strong leadership in such a difficult situation and expressed his willingness for Japan to continue to support the efforts made by Prime Minister Najib.

    Furthermore, Prime Minister Abe said that Japan was currently conducting its search operations via five aircraft and had decided to move two aircraft to Australia in response to the government of Malaysia’s request. The Prime Minister said Japan welcomed any further requests from Prime Minister Najib and would do whatever was necessary to assist as Japan and Malaysia had a cooperative relationship that was special. 

  2. Prime Minister Najib expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Abe for his warm words of support. In addition, Prime Minister Najib stated that Japan’s assistance by providing aircraft for the search operations for the missing aircraft has been invaluable, and that he was very grateful for the encouragement.

    Prime Minister Abe reiterated that he was prepared to support Prime Minister Najib and the people of Malaysia as a friend and to inform him of any further assistance required.
