The
Japanese Foreign Minister’s Commendation was initiated with the aim to
recognize and honor individuals and organizations who have made
tremendous contribution to promote amity between Japan and other
countries.
The Japanese Foreign Minister’s Commendation 2013 was awarded to MAJECA
and to the Japan Studies Program of the University of Malaya, in
recognition of their distinguished services in promoting better
relations between Japan and Malaysia.
Malaysia-Japan Economic
Association (MAJECA)
- Established in 1977, MAJECA conducts numerous activities
including
frequent exchange of business missions, holding annual joint
meeting with Japan-Malaysia Economic Association, and information
sharing for mutual understanding between Japan and Malaysia. In
addition, MAJECA took an initiative to promote the importance of
the Second Wave of the Look East Policy in partnership with the
Malaysian Government.
Japan
Studies Program, Department of East Asian Studies, Faculty of Arts and
Social Sciences, University of Malaya
- Established in 1993, it is the only program in Malaysia
specializing in Japan studies. The program actively conducts student
and academic exchanges with Universities in Japan and many other
countries and hosts numerous international symposiums to promote Japan
studies. In addition, it also contributed to the promotion of peace by
hosting an exhibition at the university’s museum on nuclear bombs of
Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 2009, the first of its kind in Asia.
On 4 September, an awarding ceremony was held at the Japanese
Ambassador’s residence.
