28 July 2011

Embassy of Japan is calling for entries for the 5th International MANGA Award. In an effort to share Japanese pop culture and promote understanding of Japan, this Award was established in 2007 to honour non-Japanese cartoonists for their contribution to the promotion of MANGA culture outside Japan.

Response to this Award has been overwhelming, with 189 works submitted from 39 countries/regions for the 4th International MANGA Award in 2010 where Thai cartoonist Ms. Xiao Bai clinched the “Gold Award” for his masterpiece “Si loin et si proche... ”.

Malaysian cartoonists submitted their works every year; in 2007 well-known Malaysian cartoonist, Mr. Benny Wong Thong Hou received the “Shorei” Award for his work “Le. Gardenie” in the 1st International MANGA Award.
