*Visa Application Requirement has been changed (4 June 2010)

Applicants are no longer required to submit confirmed flight itinerary issued by travel agent. Instead of that, applicants must submit tentative itinerary in Japan where they do not have to book for ticket. Please take note that tourist/business travelers who hold a short stay visa are required to show return ticket at the entry point. (Refer to the Remarks #6.)
Visa Application Requirement

Since 1993, Malaysian nationals are strongly encouraged to obtain a visa prior to entering into Japan.

The visa-exemption arrangements between Japan and Malaysia have allowed Malaysian nationals who meet relevant conditions can enter into Japan without a visa for a period of stay not exceeding three(3) consecutive months.

However, in order to cope with the large number of Malaysians who overstay in Japan and work illegally, the Government of Japan decided to encourage Malaysian nationals to obtain visa prior to entry into Japan in order to ensure smooth entry.

Remarks

1. The Embassy of Japan may ask applicants to submit additional documents or an interview with the applicant during the examination process. That may cause the visa processing takes longer, please apply visa well in advance.
2. To avoid forgery, applicants must submit the original documents unless the list above especially mentions “a copy”. In case you have only one original and cannot submit it with a compelling reason, you may present both the original and a clear copy of it. After the Embassy of Japan verifies the copy, the original will be returned back to you.
3. The Seal for “Letters of Reason for Invitation” (“Shohei riyu-sho”) and “Letters of Guarantee” (“Mimoto hoshou-sho”)
When an invitation to visit Japan is from a company/organization, The Embassy of Japan requests for the letter to have the registered seal of a representative from the company/organization. However, from now onwards we will also accept the non-registered seal of an authorized person or the company (a personal seal is unacceptable) for your convenience. If a seal is not possible, the signature of a person in a position of authority at the company/organization will suffice.
Please state the name of the person in charge, department and contact number (extension number if any) of the company/organization for the embassy’s reference.
The seal of the letter from the counter part in Japan (“shohei riyu-sho”): Companies and organizations must affix the representative director’s seal (“daihyo torishimariyaku-in”) onto the statement of reason. We also accept the statement of reason with the common seal (“kaisha-in”) and signature or personal stamp of the person in charge who invites the applicant. In case of the Embassy of Japan needs to refer; please state the name of the person in charge and the department he is belonging to and his contact number (extension number if any).
4. Please do not send any document or material directly to the Embassy unless you are asked to do so.
5. Please refer to the website of The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan for the sample and the format of the required documents and for the important reminder (in Japanese language only).
6. Please take note that tourist/business travelers who hold a short stay visa are required to show return ticket at the entry point.
