The Fifth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD V) 〜Hand in Hand with a More Dynamic Africa〜 |
The Government of Japan is going to host Tokyo International Conference
on African Development (TICAD) V, Summit meeting in June 1st to 3rd,
2013 in Yokohama, Japan. The Government of Japan launched TICAD in 1993 to promote high-level policy dialogue between African leaders and development partners on issues facing Africa, such as economic development, poverty and conflict. TICAD has since evolved into a major global framework to facilitate the implementation of measures for promoting African development under the dual principles of African “ownership” and “partnership” between Africa and the international community TICAD is co-organized by Japan, the African Union Commission, the United Nations, the World Bank and the UNDP, and participated by numerous governments, international and regional organizations. TICAD has been the forerunner of African development forum with various milestones in the past 20 years since its inception. Since its inception, Japan has hosted the summit-level conference every five years. As committed in TICAV IV in 2008, Japan has doubled its ODA, and doubled Japan’s direct investment in Africa by 2012. The fifth conference will be held in Yokohama from 1st to 3rd of June.
