Courtesy call on Prime Minister Mahathir by Ambassador Miyagawa

On 23rd May, Ambassador Miyagawa made a courtesy call on Tun Dr. Mahathir, the seventh Prime Minister of Malaysia. Ambassador conveyed his congratulatory message again to Tun Dr. Mahathir for the victory in the 14th General Election and his appointment as the seventh Prime Minister of Malaysia.
During the Courtesy call, they broadly exchanged their opinion on how to further strengthen the bilateral relationship between Malaysia and Japan, as well as regional and global issues. They agreed on the importance of resuscitation of the "Look East Policy." On the topic of discussion was also the incoming official working visit by Tun Dr. Mahathir to Japan in June.
In his first tenure as the forth Prime Minister of Malaysia, Tun Dr. Mahathir put forward the "Look East Policy"(LEP). LEP aimed at the social and economic development of Malaysia through taking lessons from Japanese labour discipline, management philosophy and economic development experienced by Japan. LEP, greatly contributed to the development of good relationship between Malaysia and Japan.
