2020 Autumn Conferment of Decorations on Foreign Nationals

On November 3, the Government of Japan announced foreign national recipients of Decorations by Emperor of Japan for the 2020 autumn conferment. Among of them, from the area of the Embassy’s jurisdiction, Tan Sri Mohamad Hassan Marican, former President and CEO of PETRONAS received “the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star”for the recognition of his long term contribution to strengthening the relationship between Japan and Malaysia in energy sector. We would like to sincerely congratulate Tan Sri on his outstanding decoration!
In the energy sector, Malaysia and Japan have enjoyed a cordial relationship for almost 40 years and Malaysia has provided Japan with stable supply of energy. Now Malaysia is the second largest source country of LNG import for Japan. Japan is the largest destination of Malaysia’s LNG export and about 40% of Malaysia’s LNG export is shipped to Japan. In addition, Japanese companies such as Mitsubishi,JXTG and JAPEX have made equity participation in Malaysia’s LNG projects, such as MLNG(Satu, Dua, Tiga) and PETRONAS LNG 9.
