On 9 December, Ambassador Takahashi attended an event on the 40th Anniversary of the Look East Policy hosted by the Institute of Strategic and International Studies (ISIS) Malaysia.
The event program included a launching of a book titled “40 Years of Look East Policy 1982-2022,” which was written by Ms Kato Akiko as a project of the Japan Malaysia Association, as well as a keynote address by Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, former Prime Minister of Malaysia, and a presentation about the book by Ms Kato. A panel discussion on the future of the Look East Policy was another major component of the event.
Ambassador Takahashi gave a welcome speech and joined the panel discussion as one of the speakers. In the speech and discussion, he pointed out that it is significant for Japan and Malaysia to become partners that contribute to stability of the world by expanding the scope of the policy and updating the approach in its implementation.
