On 10 July, Ambassador Oka paid a courtesy call on YBhg. Dato' Nor Hisham Bin Ahmad Dahlan, the Mayor of Kuala Lumpur.
At the meeting, Ambassador Oka praised the successful containment of COVID-19 in KL through various measures by the Government of Malaysia and Kuala Lumpur City Hall. In addition, they exchanged views on how Japan can contribute to solving various challenges in KL city, including promoting smart city projects such as enhancing safety and security in KL by utilizing advanced technologies as well as improving the conditions of the KL wholesale market.
They also touched on the deep economic and cultural relationship between KL and Japan. Nearly 400 companies from Japan have invested in KL and there are over 13,500 Japanese people living in the city. KL has actively interacted with great cities in Japan such as Osaka city and Yokohama City.
