Business Seminar to Commemorate the 40th Anniversary of the Look East Policy (LEP)

On August 11, 2022, Mr. IWATA Kazuchika, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan and Ambassador TAKAHASHI attended the Business Seminar to Commemorate the 40th Anniversary of the Look East Policy (LEP).
 
The Business Seminar was hosted by the Ministry of International Trade and Industry to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the LEP and substantial discussions were held under 3 themes, namely (i)ESG Agenda in post-pandemic economic growth, (ii) Government’s Policies and Strategies on Promoting Trade and Investment in Malaysia, and (iii) The Economic Impact of Geopolitical Tensions and Government’s Responses towards Economic Recovery.
 
At the opening session of the seminar, Senior Minister and Minister of International Trade and Industry, YB Dato’Seri Mohamed Azmin gave his opening remarks and delivered YAB Prime Minister Dato’Sri Ismail Sabri`s keynote address. In his keynote address, Prime Minister Dato’Sri Ismail Sabri touched upon the archivements made by the LEP during the last 40 years and mentioned potential new areas of cooperation under the LEP, such as AI, Robotics, as well as ESG cooperation in management of disaster, aging society, green growth, digital economy and others.
 
Parliamentary Vice-Minister IWATA delivered his opening address. He stated that Japan would promote cooperation with Malaysia in the field of use of digital technology to solve social issues, supply chain resilience and efforts to achieve carbon neutrality.
