Heartfelt Condolence for the Passing of Royal Professor Ungku Abdul Aziz
2020/12/16
Having learnt of the passing of Royal Professor Ungku Abdul Aziz yesterday, we would like to express, on behalf of the Government and the people of Japan, heartfelt and deepest condolences to his family, as well as the people of Malaysia with solemnly recalling his vast and towering intellectual contribution to the country.
Royal Professor had studied in Japan, and continued to be a role-model of the Malaysian students aspiring to study in Japan. Royal Professor later played a pivotal role of starting and promoting Look East Policy and the cordial bilateral relations as Vice-Chancellor at University of Malaya and Board Member of Pusat Bahasa Teikyo. The elevation of the friendship between Japan and Malaysia to the current height has only been made possible by the solid foundation built by Royal Professor. In recognition of great contributions made by Royal Professor, he received the Decoration of the Grand Cordon of the Order of the Sacred Treasure from Emperor of Japan.
Recalling Royal Professor’s distinguished achievements and beloved personality, we pray for the soul of Royal Professor, and sincerely hope that the government and the people of Malaysia will overcome this great sorrow.
