Ambassador Shikata attended MIMA South China Sea Conference 2024

On December 18 and 19, Ambassador Shikata attended MIMA South China Sea Conference 2024 hosted by the Maritime Institute of Malaysia (MIMA). The conference was attended by government officials, researchers, experts, and business representatives from Malaysia, Japan, the United States, China, the Philippines, Australia, Germany, Vietnam, and other countries, who exchanged a wide range of views on issues in the South China Sea.
 
In his opening remarks on the second day, the 19th, Ambassador Shikata stated that Japan will continue to support ASEAN unity, enhance capacity-building initiatives, and remains committed to collaborating with ASEAN countries and the international community regarding issues in the South China Sea, and that Japan will actively support Malaysia’s role as chair of ASEAN throughout the year 2025.
