Ambassador Shikata attended MIMA South China Sea Conference 2025

On November 17, Ambassador Shikata attended MIMA South China Sea Conference 2025 hosted by the Maritime Institute of Malaysia (MIMA). The conference was attended by government officials, researchers, experts, and business representatives from Malaysia, Japan, the United States, China, the Philippines, Australia, France, Vietnam, and other countries, who exchanged a wide range of views on issues in the South China Sea.
 
In his opening remarks at the luncheon, Ambassador Shikata congratulated Malaysia on the successful conclusion of the ASEAN-related summit meetings held under its chairmanship. He highlighted that Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae attended the meetings soon after taking office, was warmly welcomed by the leaders of the ASEAN countries, and was able to establish strong relationships.
 
He further noted that it was confirmed that Japan would further strengthen and deepen its cooperation with ASEAN towards promoting a "Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP)". Additionally, he introduced the progress of excellent Japan-Malaysia relations.
