Honorary Doctorate Conferred upon H.E. HORIE Masahiko

On 15th November 2025, the Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) formally awarded an Honorary Doctor degree to H.E. Mr. HORIE Masahiko, former Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Malaysia, in recognition of his pivotal role in establishing and advancing the Malaysia–Japan International Institute of Technology (MJIIT).
 
H.E. Mr. HORIE was instrumental in the founding of MJIIT in 2010 and has been widely honored by the UTM community as the “Father of MJIIT.”

Even after stepping down as Ambassador of Japan to Malaysia, H.E. Mr. HORIE has continued to work hard to promote exchanges between Japan and Malaysia in a wide range of fields, including education, academia, culture and business.
 
This honorary degree symbolizes the profound appreciation of the UTM academic community for H.E. Mr. HORIE’s enduring dedication to bilateral cooperation in education and diplomacy. The Embassy of Japan in Malaysia extends its heartfelt congratulations to H.E. Mr. HORIE, and expresses deep gratitude to UTM and MJIIT for their commitment and collaboration.
