Ambassador Oka had a Courtesy call on Minister of International Trade and Industry

On the 25th March, Ambassador Oka paid a courtesy call on Y.B. Dato’ Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, Minister of International Trade and Industry.
Ambassador Oka also stated Japanese companies continued to invest in various sectors including E&E, medical devices, logistics, retail and digital despite the challenging COVID-19 situation and Malaysia still remain attractive investment destination for Japanese companies. He also explained to Y.B. Dato’ Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali the progress of the cooperation project under Japan – Malaysia Smart manufacturing platform which the Embassy of Japan, JETRO and JACTIM in cooperation with MITI, MIDA,SIRIM and MPC, established in May 2019 to support Industry4RWD and improve productivity of Malaysia’s SMEs with Japanese digitalization business methodologies.
They agreed to closely work together to promote trade between the two countries and bring about further investment from Japan to Malaysia through putting in place appropriate enabling environment.
1,500 Japanese companies are operating in Malaysia and employ 340,000 employees only in manufacturing sector. Japan is Malaysia’s 3rd largest Investor and the 4th largest trading partner in 2020.
