Conferment Ceremony of the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star upon Datuk Shaharuddin bin Md Som, former Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Malaysia to Japan

On the 31st of March, the Embassy of Japan hosted a conferment ceremony for Datuk Shaharuddin bin Md Som, former Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Malaysia to Japan, who received The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star, as 2021 Autumn Conferment of Decorations for foreign recipients.
Datuk Shaharuddin served as Ambassador of Malaysia to Japan from 2010 to 2014. In particular, Datuk Shaharuddin arranged the State Visit to Japan of His Majesty Almu'tasimu Billahi Muhibbuddin Tuanku Alhaj Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah ibni Almarhum Sultan Badlishah, The Yang di-Pertuan Agong of Malaysia XIV, and Her Majesty Tuanku Hajah Haminah Binti Haji Hamidun, The Raja Permaisuri Agong in 2012 on the occasion of 30th anniversary of the Look East Policy, and the Official Visit of Hon. Dato' Sri Mohd Najib bin Tun Haji Abdul Razak, the then Prime Minister of Malaysia in 2010. Further, Datuk Saharuddin arranged bilateral summit meetings during the then Prime Minister Dato' Sri Najib's visits to Japan in 2013 and 2014, which laid the foundation of the “Look East Policy 2.0”. Moreover, Datuk Shaharuddin took the effort for humanitarian assistance and Japan's recovery from Great East Japan Earthquake, and contributed to the signing of Memorandum of Understanding on Friendship City between Hioki City, Kagoshima Prefecture and Subang Jaya Municipal Council in 2012.
His dedication to contribution to enhance Japan-Malaysia relationship has earned him Decorations by His Majesty the Emperor of Japan.
It is our great honour to celebrate the conferment upon Datuk, who has a deep affinity with the Look East Policy, in its 40th anniversary this year.
