On 30 July, Minister NIHEI Daisuke attended the 2026 International Conference on Bridging Japan Studies and Japanese Language Education in ASEAN and Japan, held at Universiti Malaya.

The conference ran from 30 July to 1 August under the theme “Critical Pedagogy and CJLE Perspectives.” It brings together researchers, educators and students engaged in Japan studies and Japanese language education. Through panel discussions, research presentations and online workshops, participants explored ways to integrate subject-based learning with Japanese language learning and promote collaboration across academic disciplines.

In his remarks, Minister NIHEI highlighted the importance of using Japanese not only as a subject of study, but also as a means of learning, thinking and discussing a wide range of fields. He also express his hope that the discussions and exchanges at the conference would help strengthen academic networks connecting Japan, Malaysia and the wider ASEAN region.
