On 30th September 2024, Ambassador Takahashi Katsuhiko awarded Certificates of Commendation to Mr. Kawasaki Naoya, the master chef of "Sushi Oribe", and Mr. Ling Teck Chong, Thomas from Entwine Consultancy, a pioneer in the promotion of sake in Malaysia.
The Certification of Commendation is an award presented by Japanese Ambassadors as well as Consuls-General stationed in various countries and regions to individuals and groups that have contributed to mutual understanding and friendship between Japan and other countries.
At the beginning of the ceremony, Ambassador Takahashi mentioned that the export value of agricultural, forestry, and fishery products and foods from Japan to Malaysia had more than doubled in the past five years. He added that both Mr. Kawasaki and Mr. Ling had contributed greatly to the promotion of Japanese cuisine in Malaysia, including their cooperation in the launch of the "Japan Food Export Platform" held in May this year, as "Japanese Cuisine Goodwill Ambassadors".
At the ceremony, Mr Kawasaki thanked customers, staff and business partners of his restaurant (Sushi Oribe), and said that he would continue to strive to deepen the ties between Japan and Malaysia.
Mr. Ling expressed his aspirations for the future, and stated his belief that Japan's Kokushu (Sake, Shochu and Awamori) were more than just beverages, as they could foster cultural understanding and exchange.
The Embassy of Japan continues to promote Japanese cuisine in Malaysia together with various industry players including Mr. Kawasaki Naoya and Mr. Ling Teck Chong, Thomas.
