On 22nd January, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fishery of Japan (MAFF) appointed Mr. Ling Teck Chong, Thomas and Mr. KAWASAKI Naoya as its “Japanese Cuisine Goodwill Ambassadors”.

Japanese Cuisine Goodwill Ambassadors are expected to promote Japanese food and dietary culture both inside and outside Japan through activities such as providing advice from a professional standpoint to overseas professionals specializing in Japanese cuisine.

Mr. Ling Teck Chong, Thomas is the Principal Partner of Entwine Consultancy. He plays a leading role in the promotion of Japanese sake in Malaysia. He has been engaged in the promotion of Japanese dietary culture including sake to restaurants and importers in Malaysia in collaboration with various Japanese sake breweries.

Mr. KAWASAKI Naoya is the Master Chef of “Sushi Oribe” located in Kuala Lumpur.  He has contributed to the development of Japanese food and dietary culture in Malaysia by introducing Japanese cuisine such as sushi and utilizing his vast experience as a Japanese cuisine chef.

“Washoku (Japanese Cuisine)” was designated as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2013 and loved by many people in Malaysia. With the growth of  Washoku, sake which is the Japanese traditional alcoholic beverage strongly associated with Japanese climate and culture is also becoming increasingly popular in Malaysia. We expect the growing popularity of Japanese food and dietary culture in Malaysia to lead to a deeper understanding of Japanese culture and an increase in visitors from Malaysia to Japan.

The Embassy of Japan is delighted to promote Japanese food and sake in Malaysia together with various industry players including Mr. Ling Teck Chong, Thomas and Mr. KAWASAKI Naoya.
